If you don’t see it doesn’t mean it’s not happening undercover. Still, some prophecies are better left unspoken because when the moment comes & it strikes, there is no word needed.
Recently, I went on a quest. I filled myself up with the wonders around me. Under the sunlight and through the night, the simple & fine shapes of the Algarvian landscapes dropped into my memory and at some point arose:
O Sol, A Lua E Tu
The Sun, the Moon and You. Who is You? You, is neither the sun, nor the Moon. You is somewhere in between. Dancing from one end to the other, expressing itself through different aspects along the spectrum. Some are light and bright like the sun and some are darker and hidden under the moonlight. Both are essential and build the intricacy of its being, creating balance and harmony.
This ongoing quest aims to collect insights around this theme expressed through intuitive art, shapes, colors and forms. A metaphor for the search for one’s unique place as part of the cosmos. Soon enough, I’ll be off to new places. However, I intend to apply this search to the specificities and ambients of the other landscapes I'm going to encounter.
This quest is a work in progress, mixing and experimenting with different techniques going from oil paint to the use and supperposition of pastels.

The phrase «Life is a gift» came to my mind as I painted this piece. It stroke my imagination and I started to imagine bodies unanimated lying down on the floor suddenly given life, like a gift. Then I thought: What if we have been given bodies instead ?
What if we have been given bodies to act out our deepest desires and face our darkest challenges, to go from extatic highs to lowest losses and experience all the in-betweens ?
Just, to act out life, to let the current of life moove through our bodies.
Life then doesn’t become this Gift that one has to live up to. Our bodies become the gift through which Life can express itself. In other words Life doesn’t happen to us anymore, but happens through us. So, are you ready to make Life happen ?

Luna Dimidiata is the latin word for half-moon, the first or last quarter of the moon cycle rising in the night sky. The base of this painting is however inspired by a pattern that can be found on the platband of Algarvian Houses. I frequently encountered this symbol during my explorations of the South of Portugal and it then inspired the first painting of the collection O Sol A Lua E Tu.
