A Rua Direita em Festa

Another kind of mural

south of portugal, PortimÃo

From one sunny region to another, the next mural project took place in the summer of 2023 in the Algarve in southern Portugal, but this time on the ground.

An architect friend of mine had the idea to paint the rota acessível of one of the main streets of Portimao, rua Direita.  The rota acessível, literally "accessible road," is a 1.2-meter-wide concrete path that was inserted between the cobblestones in the 1990s to make the streets accessible for people with reduced mobility

The project aimed to bring color to the city, making it more attractive and pleasant for residents. I then designed a drawing inspired by the shapes and colors of the landscapes and architecture of the Algarve, and we presented the complete project titled "A Rua Direita Em Festa" to the municipality of Portimão, which then decided to sponsor the floor mural.

The painting work was done over two weeks, from mid-July to early August. We worked closely with a local painting company to adjust the color choices and with the municipal services, which provided us with technical support.
